Ear infections are an unfortunate part of childhood. They are painful, irritating and in my experience seem to always start at night. There is nothing worse than your child waking you up in the middle of the night with a pounding ear.
My daughter suffered from swimmers ear over the summer. Her symptoms didn’t point to an ear infection but after a few weeks of on and off again pain, I brought her in to see her doctor. She was diagnosed with swimmers ear and as a result she has used ear pain as an excuse to try and stay home from school.
I did finally take her back to the doctor to have her ears re-checked and sure enough, they were perfectly healthy. I was relieved and she was a little upset that her plan to stay home from school backfired. A few weeks later I received a bill for over two hundred dollars from my doctors office. This prompted me to go searching on Amazon and I bought the Ultra-Slim Digital Otoscope Camera by Teslong that allows you to check your children’s ears for infections using your smartphone.
I will freely admit that I can be technologically challenged. However, this device was easy to use. The user manual comes with easy instructions for both Windows, Mac and Android. I used my Android and simply downloaded an App from the Google Play Store. I used the Endoscope HD Camera App and the picture came up immediately. The package came with three adapters and three ear wax removing tools.
I first tested it on my own ears and once I figured out the right angle, I was impressed. My family had a freaky, fun, ear wax observing time with this ingenious device. For a family on a budget, this is a great way to check ears before making a doctor’s appointment especially if you are in a situation with your child like I was in.
My recommendation is to never let children play with this device. It should be for adult use only so there is no risk of sticking the otoscope in too far. A proper diagnosis needs to be done by a doctor but this can shed some light (no pun intended) on mysterious ear pain.
